MiACCESO President Daniel Copano meets and greets with Congressman Xavier Becerra
November 4, 2009
Mr. Daniel Copano 2414 Daly St. Los Angeles, CA 90031
Dear Mr. Copano:
Thank you for taking the time to participate in my recent "Coffee With Your Congressman" meeting at the Lincoln Heights Senior Center on Saturday, October 31, 2009. I appreciated the opportunity to update you on my work in Washington, D.C., and I came away from your meeting with a better understanding of the issues and priorities you would like to see addressed. The input you provided will play a key role in my decision making process as I work to set a new direction for our country in Congress.
The most important part of the meeting for me was the question and answer session. I heard loud and clear your concerns about the state of our economy, the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan and the need for comprehensive health care reform. As your representative in Congress, I am committed to staying informed and aware of the issues important to you.
Again, thank you for participating in the democratic process by joining our community in this open forum. I look forward to continuing our discussion at future meetings, and online at http://Becerra.House.Gov. Please remember that my office is available to help with any federal matter that concerns you.
It looks like the debate is heating up about whether to keep the $8,000 first-time home buyer's credit that expires at the end of November. I got press release e-mails today from Senate Banking Committee Chairman Christopher Dodd (D-CT) and Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner both praising the credit's extension.

Obama Official: Immigration Reform Will Be Introduced Once Votes to Pass It Are Assured
The Obama administration will push for immigration reform in Congress once Democrats are certain they have enough votes to pass it, Interior Secretary Ken Salazar said Tuesday in Washington.
The Senate should pay attention to the health care reform bill unveiled on Thursday by House Democratic leaders. The bill would greatly expand coverage of the uninsured while reducing budget deficits over the next decade and probably beyond. It includes a public option that is weaker than we would like, but it still deserves to be approved by the House.
